EXPERIENCE

  • Jan. 2008 - Present, Web Developer, The Los Angeles Times

Responsible for building data-driven flash applications for the LA Times website.

  • Jan. 2004 - Present, Co-Founder, 49th Parallel Productions

Started a small multimedia production company with designer/documentary filmmaker Katy Newton, who happens to be my wife. We are a small two-person company so I end up wearing many hats, with a focus on programming and assisting with the design phase.

  • Jan. 2001 - Jan. 2008, Senior Multimedia Producer, The Oakland Tribune / BANG Newspapers - East Bay

As Senior Multimedia Producer, my main responsibility was to help plan out multimedia packages with the news editors and then assemble them for online distribution. I also provided training and support for other staff members. During this time, I also continually contributed stills for print.

  • Jun. 2007 - Aug.2007, Guest Lecturer, San Francisco State University

Taught the Jour. 435 Photojournalism III course to approximately 15 students at SF State. The main goal of the course was to teach the students how to produce photo stories. This was my first time in a teaching position and I have to admit it was very difficult at first, but in the end, it became one my most rewarding experiences.

  • June 2000 - Dec. 2000, Internship, The Post-Crescent

Full time staff photographer for the 60,000 (100,000 on Sundays) daily paper in Appleton, WI. Great working environment, where I covered everything from rural farm-life to Packers football games.

  • June 1999 – Aug. 1999, Internship, Dubuque Telegraph Herald

Worked 40+ hours a week for a mid-size (36,000) daily along the Mississippi River in Dubuque, IA. A great photo-driven paper where enterprise art was used often and we were required to produce monthly photo spreads.
